Is MFA blocking your login?

If Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is causing trouble, here are common indicators and fixes:

Signs MFA is the Issue

After entering your password, you’re prompted for a second factor (code, app approval), but:

  • You don’t receive any notification or code.
  • You can’t access your registered device (phone lost/stolen or app not installed).
  • You get an error like “Authentication failed” or “We can’t verify your identity”.

Login works on devices that already trust you, but fails on a new device or browser.

Steps to Check & Correct MFA

1  Open Microsoft Authenticator app
Confirm your Niagara College account appears in the app.

2  Push notification issues
Open the Authenticator app and manually approve the request if it didn’t notify you.
Ensure your phone has internet access and notifications enabled.

3  Use a verification code
  • If push notifications fail, tap your Niagara College account in the app to reveal a 6-digit code.
  • Input that code on the sign-in screen within 30 seconds.

4  Lost phone or changed number?
You will need ITS support to reset your MFA method.

Still stuck?  If you still cannot get past MFA, vist the ITS Support Desk in the library for help
